Diagnose HMSN en strottenhoofd neuropathie
Diagnose van de precieze mutatie bij ziekten die behoren tot de groep van Charcot Marie Tooth, ofwel HMSN is duidelijk in opmars.
In 2009 werd bijvoorbeeld een nieuw patent geopenbaard over een methode om bij HMSN type 1A en de erfelijke drukneuropathie de precieze genetische afwijking in kaart te brengen.
Vinden van een chromosoom
Het gaat om het patent uit de VS: Patent 7,638,308. De titel van het patent:
- Diagnosis method and kits for inherited neuropathies caused by duplication or deletion of chromosome 17p11.2-p12 region.
Het gaat om een kit om de duplicaties en de deleties in een bepaald chromosoom te vinden.
- The patent describes a method and kit for diagnosing two hereditary diseases — Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, type 1A. And hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies — that are caused by duplication and deletion in the chromosome 17p11.2-p12 region.
De methode is gebaseerd op de PCR (een al wat oudere methode). In de samenvatting wordt de nieuwe methode als volgt omschreven:
- “Multiplex PCR amplification is carried out using 6 loci of D17S921, D17S9B, D17S9A, D17S918, D17S2230 and D17S4A as markers, and DNA-typing of the resulting PCR amplification products is carried out to determine duplication and deletion in the corresponding chromosomal region.”
Strottenhoofd neuropathie bij HMSN (CMT)
Wat bij HMSN ook voorkomt, is strottenhoofd neuropathie. Dit is een wat onbekende uitingsvorm van HMSN (CMT), ofwel de ziekte van Charcot Marie Tooth. De neuropathie is namelijk afhankelijk van de lengte van de zenuwen.
Toch komt stemband verlamming wel voor bij Charcot Marie Tooth. Dat kan dan aanleiding zijn tot het slaap apneu syndroom, slikklachten, vermoeidheid bij het ademhalen, en vooral stemafwijkingen zoals heesheid.[1]
